1. What is a Special Pickup and how do I request one?

The Public Works Department provides special pickup service of bulk trash each Wednesday. This service is provided to collect those items that are not appropriate for normal trash or recycling such as toys, furniture, televisions and miscellaneous household items. To ensure personnel and equipment safety, the per item maximum weight is 100 pounds. To arrange for a special pickup, please contact the Village Communications Center by no later than 2:00 p.m. on the Tuesday immediately preceding the special pickup collection day. 2. How do I dispose of Hazardous Waste?

The Public Works Department also provides a monthly hazardous waste collection service along with its weekly special pickup and garden debris collection. This service is provided on the second Wednesday of each month. Hazardous items must be transported to the County’s Transfer Station the same day they are collected. The Village will collect all containers of garden chemicals, corrosive household cleaners, motor oil, and oil-based paint. Please label all hazardous waste materials for Village collection. Montgomery County does not accept latex-based paint in its Hazardous Waste Program. If you have cans of latex paint, open the containers, let the contents dry out, and place the cans in the regular trash for pickup. To arrange for a hazardous waste pickup, residents must contact the Village Communications Center by no later than 2:00 p.m. on the Tuesday preceding the pickup. Residents must specify the type and quantity of hazardous materials requested for pickup.

3. Who is responsible for snow removal from all Village streets?

The Village Public Works Department is responsible for snow removal from all Village streets, except Brookville Road and Connecticut Avenue, which are maintained by the State. In the event of heavy snow, sleet, or freezing rain, the Village crew will plow the streets clear of snow and will treat the pavement with abrasives to allow for safe passage.

4. Who is responsible for clearing the sidewalk in front of my house after a snow storm?

As mandated by the Village Code (Sec. 25-7), residents are required to remove and clear away all snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of or abutting their property within the first forty-eight (48) hours after the cessation of falling snow, sleet, or freezing rain, except sidewalks along Brookville Road and Connecticut Avenue, which are cleared by Public Works personnel.
