General Presidential Election InformationElection Board Consolidates Polling Places for November 3 Election; Voters Encouraged to Vote Early, By Mail and Volunteer as Election Worker
This week, the Montgomery County Board of Elections voted to consolidate the number of polling places in the county in response to a shortage of election workers. The Chevy Chase Village Hall will NOT serve as an in-person polling site for the November 3 election; however, Village residents will be able to access early voting between October 26 and November 3 at the nearby Jane E. Lawton Center in the Town of Chevy Chase or vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot that can be dropped off at any of the over 35 planned drop-off boxes throughout the county. Chemical Pesticide Use on Lawns The Village’s Environment & Energy Committee will host a virtual briefing and discussion of the Montgomery County Healthy Lawns Act on Thursday, September 17 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Mark your calendar and save the below zoom link for this briefing which will include Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker, one of the lead sponsors when the bill was introduced in 2015. Councilmember Hucker will cover the background and origin of the law and why he believes, municipalities, including Chevy Chase Village, should opt in. The September 17 briefing will also include Mary Travaglini, the County’s Pesticides Specialist, who will talk about implementation of the law and sustainable alternatives to synthetic pesticides for maintaining a healthy lawn. Montgomery County Public Libraries ‘Contemporary Conversations’ Series will Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote with a Free Virtual EventSaturday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. Registration required Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s passage, guaranteeing women the right to vote, with a discussion featuring two prominent authors as part of MCPL’s “Contemporary Conversations” series. The virtual event called “Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote” will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22.

The Chevy Chase Village Board of Managers will hold a Public Hearing on Resolution No. 09-01-20 urging the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior, to remove a plaque and inscription honoring Francis G. Newlands from the fountain within Chevy Chase Circle and calling for an Act of the Congress of the United States to remove the name of, and memorial dedication to, Francis G. Newlands from the fountain within Chevy Chase Circle.

Census 2020: Response Deadline September 30 The US Census Bureau has moved up the self-response deadline for the 2020 Census to September 30. That means that the approximately 12% of Village households that have not yet responded have about 40 days to do so by mail, by phone or online. The Census Bureau estimates that each resident that is counted under the census represents $18,250 in federal funding allocated to the state and local governments over the span of the next ten years. COVID-19 TestingMontgomery County Discontinues its Testing Sites; Information Regarding Alternate Facilities On Tuesday, August 18, Montgomery County announced that it had terminated its contract with AdvaGenix, a Rockville-based company that been the county’s provider of COVID-19 testing. This contract termination followed concerns raised by the State of Maryland regarding AdvaGenix’s testing and lab process. The county has reopened testing sites using alternate testing methods, which supplement privately-managed facilities available throughout the county and state.

Support the Nearby Farmer's Market in Section 3Bring cash or a check for the Newly Launched “$5 for Food” Donation Drive Benefiting the Capital Area Food BankThe Farmers Market at Taylor St. and Brookville Rd. in Section 3 is open with ample parking at La Ferme restaurant. The market features only organic products sold in a COVID-compliant manner. Patrons must wear a mask and bring their own bag and pay by credit/debit card.
The market is open on Saturdays from 8-9 a.m. for seniors and other vulnerable individuals and opens for all patrons at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine).
